Kelley becomes 11th UND leader

Classes ended early Friday afternoon as Robert O. Kelley was inaugurated as the next president of the University of North Dakota
Last Friday, at 2 p.m., the University of North Dakota welcomed into office its 11th President, Dr. Robert Otis Kelley. There were many esteemed guests at the event, including the Governor of North Dakota, John Hoeven and dozens of UND faculty, who processed into the Chester Fritz Auditorium in full academic robe.

Drug violations on the rise

2007 statistics released show interesting results about campus crime
Drug violations are up this year at UND, while alcohol violations have gone down - all this according to the UND Police department's recently released 2007 crime statistics. The report listed a total of 89 drug violations in 2007, up from the 36 drug offenses in 2006.

Now imagine that child 18 years old and taking their first steps onto a college campus. Their safety gear has changed to an updated, more technological form: the emergency notification system.

With the November elections less than two months away, many agencies and organizations are making an effort to spur U.S. citizens to get out and vote. The North Dakota Association of Counties is attempting to help voters understand the widely-varying processes of casting a ballot and how to register if required before the elections.

Readership program in jeopardy after loss of funds

Rise in readers has lead to a shortage in newspapers on campus-wide stands.
The University of North Dakota Student Government is asking for help on funding issues facing the Collegiate Readership Program. "Last year's presidential finance decided to reduce funding for the readership program so this year we're able to offer fewer newspapers," said UND Student Government Treasurer Sterling Wiggins.

Wacipi, Alerus Center on Senate's agenda

Student Senate met for its second session this past Sunday. With no standing committee approvals, the chamber went straight to business. First on the agenda was a presentation by Jeremy Jones, director of the Emerging Leaders Program. Jones began by announcing the program's new staff members and outlining the program goals for the year, including the continuing maturation of the Second Year Program.

Obama addresses tuition woes

COLLEGE UND hosts roundtable discussion to evaluate Democrat plans for cost reduction.
Senator Barack Obama recently addressed his plan to reform the country's education system. Most notably on this policy are Obama's strategic hopes to make college a more available experience for everyone. Last Wednesday, the 10th, open roundtable discussions were held in the Agassiz room in the Memorial Union.
