The viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV) has been coursing its way through the great lakes water system for years without infecting Lake Superior, but according to a recent announcement by Cornell University researchers, this is no longer the case.

"On a worldwide basis, VHSV is considered one of the most serious pathogens of fish, because it kills so many fish, is not treatable and infects a broad range of fish species," said Paul Bowser, professor of aquatic animal medicine at Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine.

Bonnaroo, a music festival that was founded in 2002 and that has hosted such artists as Bob Dylan, Radiohead and The White Stripes is making available a downloadable album of live music donated by artists who have taken part in the festival. On Saturday morning, a 9-foot ice sculpture was assembled at the Central Hillside Community Center on 4th Street and Lake Avenue in Duluth. In the shape of a waterfall, the sculpture holds significance to our duty as residents of the Duluth area and is currently located underneath a bridge outside of the community center.
