When SCSU forward Garrett Roe was drafted in the seventh round last week by the Los Angeles Kings, he was not even paying attention to the NHL draft.
Instead he was watching soccer on TV.
"All of a sudden I get a call from the owner of my USHL team the Indiana Ice, then 30 seconds later my family adviser calls, then thirty seconds later my dad calls then, thirty seconds after that the Kings call," Roe said.

Iowa State guard Lucca Staiger, 19, was arrested May 26 for interference with official acts, according to state records.
Staiger was arrested after allegedly entering a bar underage in Polk County. Staiger negotiated a voluntary guilty plea and paid a $250 fine.

Former ISU men's basketball player Mike Taylor was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers with the 55th selection in Thursday's NBA Draft and became the first player in history to be drafted from the NBA Development League (D-League).
Taylor didn't get to spend much time with his new team.

SCSU's longest tenured head coach has decided to stop her coaching career to focus on the classroom.
Lori Ulferts, who in 14 years as the women's basketball head coach compiled a 219-178 record, announced her resignation last Wednesday. She will still be part of SCSU, as a professor in the health, physical education, recreation and sports science department.

Former ISU basketball player Mike Taylor was selected in the second round of the NBA draft Thursday night. The Milwaukee, Wis., native was taken by the Portland Trailblazers as the 55th overall pick. Taylor was later traded to the Los Angeles Clippers for a future second-round pick.

The defending Northwoods League champion St. Cloud River Bats are in the midst of an identity crisis.
Entering Sunday afternoon with a 3-4 week, the Bats are sitting at a 9-12 overall record, six games behind division-leading Mankato. The players know they will need to be more consistent to get the season on track.
