Last year the Dakota Student ran an article entitled "Get Busy: Anatomy of the One-Night Stand" by Sara Tezel. Natch, with a title like that, Ms. Tezel was just asking for the fire-and-brimstone crowd to crawl out of the woodwork and denounce her. Hell, a decent portion of the student body questioned the article's subject, debating the tenets of Christianity vs.

President Barack Obama and his education team announced a new grant program, "The Race to the Top Fund," earlier this summer, and the deadline for the first round of applicants completed a few days ago.
The race is a $4.35 billion competitive grant program designed to encourage and reward states that are creating the conditions for education innovation and reform, achieving significant improvement in student outcomes, and implementing ambitious plans in four core education reform areas: tough academic standards, recruiting and keeping effective teachers, tracking student performance with refined data collection methods and turning around the lowest performing schools.

A record snowfall this winter season has got many wondering just how high the Red River waters will go.
With conditions similar to last year, "A lot of things are in place for a big flood," said meteorologist David Kellenbenz of the National Weather Service.

One thing that Duluth seems to lack as a college town is a college "scene." Students living on campus feel a connection as they stroll from Lake Superior Hall to the coffee shop and to class, but there isn't a common "hang out" area like the Twin Cities' Dinkytown.

It appeared to be a match made in heaven; unfortunately, things never came together properly while making what could have been a tremendous achievement.
The cinema gods decided to take one of the all-time great Disney movies that is known for its obscurity and have the two kings of weird remake the project.

Two-a-day workouts, healthy nutrition and proper sleep have left the Spring Break Blasters feeling rather sore, yet toned up and ready for Spring Break 2010. Here's what some of them had to say:
"I've tried to have better eating habits than normal this past week, including more veggies and salad, and I've tried to avoid ordering out and snacking,"
-Jessica Grover
"I became much more conscious about what I was eating and if it was going to be healthy or not, because I didn't want all this exercise to go to waste by eating crappy food.

Haiti's earthquake has spawned all kinds of relief efforts across the globe. One Hamline alumnus aims to raise money and awareness for the devastated nation by walking south, until he gets as close to Haiti as possible (without swimming across the Atlantic).

Last week I was invited to join a Facebook group created by Hamline graduate Jordan Dibb called, "I Walk for Love." Beginning March 27, Dibb will leave Minneapolis on foot, planning to walk 1800 miles to Miami in 100 days to raise money for Haiti. He has partnered with Action Against Hunger and hopes to raise $100,000 by the end of his walk.

One of my favorite episodes of the third season of Arrested Development revolves around Michael Bluth hiring what he thought was his sister as a consultant to his family's financially troubled company.
Little does he realize, however, that the woman he's hired is not his sister, but in fact, a prostitute.

The History of the Tibetan National Uprising Day on March 10th:
March 10, 2010 will mark the 51st anniversary of Tibet's occupation by the People's Republic of China. On this same date in 1959, Tibetans held their final uprising against the invading People's Liberation Army (PLA) while still officially a sovereign nation.
